Today we launched the latest version of GFI LanGuard 2014. Cristian Florian, product manager for GFI LanGuard, talks about the updates.
Q: What have you focused on in this release?
With the use mobile devices and cloud services in businesses on the increase, the job of IT administrators has become even more challenging. It is almost impossible today to clearly define the network perimeter to be protected, and you also need to manage devices and infrastructure that the company does not own.
In the latest version, we continued to concentrate our efforts on extending support for more applications, devices and services. We want to help our customers to audit and secure their IT infrastructure no matter what operating systems, software or devices they use.
Q: What is new in GFI LanGuard 2014 R2?
We have extended the assessment of mobile devices by enabling auditing of smart phones and tablets that connect to cloud-based platforms like Office 365 and Google Apps, in addition to the Microsoft Exchange support that was introduced in the previous version.
A network is as vulnerable as its weakest point, and network devices such as routers, access points, printers and switches must not be neglected. To the Cisco and HP devices supported in previous versions, GFI LanGuard 2014 R2 adds support for vulnerability assessment for devices from: Dell, SonicWALL, Juniper, Linksys, NETGEAR, 3Com, Nortel, Alcatel and IBM. Over 2,600 network devices are now supported. The complete list is available here.
On the patch management side, the ability to automatically patch all Windows, Linux and OS X machines in the network from a single central console is now improved by including Fedora – the seventh Linux distribution supported by GFI LanGuard.
Q: Anything else of interest?
We have added new out-of-the-box reports dedicated to the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). GFI LanGuard has now dedicated compliance reports for 11 security regulations and standards, including PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOX and PSN CoCo.
